Life with plural education is a human right.
Promoting education grounded in human rights and democracy.
SDG 04. Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.
Quality education is also one of the Sustainable Development Goals that guide our work at Instituto Aurora.
The right to an education aimed at the “full development of the human personality and the strengthening of respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms” is set forth in Article 26 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
Education that includes
Education that empowers
Education that transforms
During the research conducted for the Overview of Human Rights Education in Brazil, we documented a widespread lack of understanding of what human rights education is among public officials responsible for the field. These same officials also reported that demystifying the concept of human rights remains a pressing need.
In a context where human rights continue to be misunderstood and a culture of respect for these rights has not yet taken hold structurally or interpersonally, several urgent issues emerge. Among them is the recruitment of children and adolescents by the far right, encouraged through violent behavior and the use of derogatory and discriminatory language that directly contradict human rights values.

Target 4.7 of SDG 04 ensures access to the “knowledge and skills needed to promote sustainable development”, including education for human rights, gender equality, the promotion of a culture of peace, global citizenship, and the appreciation of cultural diversity. Our projects are aligned with this target through: research that generates relevant data on public policies related to Human Rights Education in Brazil, strengthening the field and increasing its visibility; and initiatives that engage young people and educators, fostering reflection on social justice, intersectionality, discrimination, and violence. These efforts enable both personal and collective transformation, celebrating differences and reinforcing a culture grounded in human rights.
